BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - May 3, 2013 - Penguin today announces that Andrew Phillips
is to become CEO of Author Solutions, Penguin’s self-publishing business,
starting on 1st July. He succeeds Kevin Weiss who will leave to take up a new
position which will be announced separately next week.
Andrew Phillips has been with the Penguin Group for more than ten years, most
recently as President of Penguin International based in Delhi. His current
remit covers the Penguin businesses in India, Africa and the Middle East.
Previously, he worked for global reference publisher DK as Deputy CEO overseeing
global sales and marketing and digital strategy and also headed up the
International Publishing and Licensing division. Prior to joining DK, Andrew
worked for Electronic Arts, the worldwide leader in entertainment software, and
started his career at McGraw-Hill.
Penguin Chairman and Chief Executive John Makinson commented: “This is a
bitter-sweet announcement because we shall be sorry to lose Kevin, who has
provided the stability and clear leadership that Author Solutions needed in the
year after our acquisition. But I always recognised that Kevin would seek fresh
pastures in time and that a new chief executive from within Penguin would
connect the business more closely to Penguin's curated publishing activities.
Andrew's impressive range of talents and experience equip him perfectly to
extend the international development of Author Solutions, to build on our
network of publishing partnerships, and to strengthen the ties with Penguin
companies around the world.”
Andrew Phillips commented: “I am delighted to be joining Author Solutions
after more than ten years in the Penguin family. To my mind, self-publishing is
the fastest-growing and most dynamic area of the publishing economy. The launch
of Partridge, the first Penguin Author Solutions partnership in India, gave me
firsthand experience of the huge opportunities that exist both in developed and
emerging markets. I am greatly looking forward to working with the talented
Author Solutions team, and all our publishing partners, at this exciting
